Hi! I’m Arielle (pronounced R-E-L) a 16 year old girl who eats paleo. What is paleo? Well it’s a diet where you don’t eat sugar, grains, dairy, soy or legumes. I know what you’re thinking, “gosh she can’t eat anything!” Well that’s not true. I eat meat, vegetables, fruit and the occasional paleo treat (who am I kidding it’s not occasional, I eat treats on a regular basis). Why do I eat this way? I have Dysautonomia, a malfunction of the autonomic nervous system. It makes me extremely tired, to the point where most days I just lay on the couch. It messes up my GI track and occasionally makes me dizzy when I stand up. Other names doctors have labeled me are: POTS, Chronic Fatigue and Hypothyroidism. The doctors treat me for hypothyroidism, but at this point in time there is no cure or treatment for Dysautonomia so that lead me to try different diets. The paleo diet doesn’t help with my dysautonomia symptoms, but I know my stomach likes eating this way better.
